ELL 3

Course Description:

ELL 3 exposes students to reading and writing at an appropriate level.  Emphasis is placed on reading strategies and the writing process.  Students are introduced to various types of literature and are expected to do independent reading.  Upon successful completion of the program of study, students will be placed in a regular English course.

Unit Structure:

ELL 3 is organized into 6 major units.  The first 5 major units consist of 4 mini units--one that focuses on vocabulary and grammar, one that focuses on reading, a mini-unit in writing, and a mini-unit in speaking.  The last unit of the year focuses on research.

Common Assessments:

Students are assessed commonly in reading, writing, and language skills after the end of each respective mini unit.  Quarter 2 and quarter 4 culminate in common summative assessments of skills learned.
