   Richard Heim

Board President Richard Heim is a 25-year resident of Lombard.  He was elected to the board in April 2009 and re-elected in April 2013.  Heim is president of Advocate South Suburban Hospital. 

Heim earned a bachelor’s degree from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Lewis University in Romeoville.

He and his wife have four children.  Heim is past president of the Glenbard East Athletic Booster Club, Board Member of Midwest Center for Day Surgery in Downers Grove and former Board Member for the Lombard Chamber of Commerce.

   Rose Malcolm

Board  Vice President Rose Malcolm is a 26-year resident of Carol Stream. She was elected to the board in 1999 and re-elected in 2003, 2007 and 2011. Malcolm is a retirement housing professional at Peace Memorial Manor in Downers Grove.

Malcolm earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in elementary education and special education from the University of Illinois.

She and her husband have three children, all graduates of Glenbard North High School. Malcolm is active with Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS) at St. Luke Parish.

   Robert Friend

Board Parliamentarian Robert Friend is a Lombard resident.  He was elected to the board in April 2009 and re-elected in April 2013.

Friend is a retired power mechanic with United Parcel Service.  He and his wife Susan have two daughters, who are Glenbard East graduates.

Friend is a member of the Lombard Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Tri-Town YMCA Board of Directors and the Men’s Club at First United Methodist Church of Lombard. He is a former member of the Lombard District 44 Board of Education.

   Jennifer Jendras

Board member Jennifer Jendras and her husband, Richard, live in Lombard. She is an occupational safety and health specialist with the U.S. Department of Labor O.S.H.A.  Jendras was elected in April 2013.

Jendras has a bachelor’s degree in environmental health and safety from Illinois State University and a master of public health degree from Benedictine University. Jendras has three children, two of whom attend Glenbard East.  

She is a co-leader, 4H Club Fantastic Creative Thinkers and member of Lombard Town Center and Lombard Historical Society. Jendras is PTA past president at Glenn Westlake Middle School and past member of the Village of Lombard Environmental Concerns Committee.

   Judith Weinstock

Judith Weinstock, a Glen Ellyn resident, is a retired Glenbard West English teacher.  She was elected in April 2013.  Weinstock earned a bachelor of arts degree in English education and master of education degree in educational administration, supervision and curriculum from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana      .

Her son Michael and daughter Rachel attended Glenbard West.

Weinstock is involved with the League of Women Voters.

   Thomas Trefilek

Tom Trefilek, a resident of Lombard, was elected to the board in 2007.  He and his wife Cherie have three sons and a daughter.

Trefilek has a bachelor’s degree in commerce from DePaul University and a master’s degree from George Williams College.
He has 20 years of experience as an instructor and coach at local colleges.

Trefilek is with Ortho-Med Services Inc., distributor of Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Products.

   Mary Ozog

Mary FitzGerald Ozog was elected to the Board of Education in April 2011. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan and studied Urban Planning at the University of Illinois. She has four children and three are now Glenbard West graduates. Mary and her family have lived in Glen Ellyn for 25 years.

Legislative/Communication & Partnerships
- Enhance communication with the community
- Develop systematic articulation with feeder districts
- Establish and sustain meaningful relationships both internal and external to the District that promote a partnership to support the educational mission

Finance and facilities
- Maintain a balanced budget
- Develop and coordinate a budgetary process that facilitates the achievement of Board goals
- Implement appropriate components of the existing facilities plan
- Develop a five-year financial plan

Policy
- Review all Board of Education policies annually to be responsive to community standards and local and national laws and guidelines.

Listing of Development and Training Completed by Board Members

All Illinois school board members must receive training in professional development leadership (P.A. 97-8) and the Open Meetings Act (P.A. 97-504).  Mandatory training will also be required after the new teacher evaluation requirements are implemented in each school district.  For additional information, see Board policy 2:120, Board Member Development.

The Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) is a voluntary organization of local boards of education dedicated to strengthening the Illinois public schools through local citizen control.  Although not a part of State government, IASB is organized by member school boards as a private not-for-profit corporation under authority granted by Article 23 of the School Code.  The mission of the IASB is excellence in local school governance in support of quality public education.
