Glenbard District 87 is transforming to ensure accountability for the development, academic success and learning of each of our nearly 9,000 students. We believe in continuous improvement and that we are getting better as a school district.
We also believe strongly in accountability and transparency. We have developed a scorecard that monitors our progress on the five strategic priorities of Glenbard District 87ís strategic plan. Each of the five priority areas has measurable indicators that have an initial baseline measurement and subsequent goals to be accomplished by the end of the 2009-2010 school year.
We are cultivating improvements for our students to attain excellence. The elements of our improvement priorities as a school district are the basis for our strategic plan. The structures are in place providing the framework and direction for the next five years:
• Academic growth and student development • Learning environment and school climate • Partnerships between home, school and community • Collaborative culture between and among all work groups • Fiscal responsibility
We have embarked on an ambitious agenda because of the awesome responsibility we have to meet the needs of a school district that has undergone tremendous changes in our student population in the last few years. Our poverty rate has grown by 18.8 percent since the 2007-08 school year and the English language learner population has grown by approximately 17.4 percent within the past year.
While there are several structures in place to affect positive change for students, some of those we would like to highlight include:
• Accountability for graduation, attendance, and math and reading skills • Increased graduation requirements • High School of the Future • K-12 curriculum alignment • Minority Student Achievement Task Force • Response to Intervention • Summer school
We are confident that with the support and involvement of parents and other community members our students will have every opportunity to succeed.
Thank you for your continued support of Glenbard students, faculty and staff.
Sincerely, Michael Meissen, Ph.D. Superintendent of Schools
