Administrative Procedure – Library Resource Center Materials
Selection and Approval of Library Resource Center Materials
A. The selection of new library resource center materials is usually initiated by the librarian, although
materials primarily for a certain department are selected in consultation with the Department Chair.
B. The Building Principal will review the order form and, if necessary, consult with the librarian.
C. Many books are donated to the library resource center and the librarians are responsible for reviewing
them before they are accepted.
Procedures for Requests for Reconsideration of Library Resource Center Materials
A. Guidelines will be developed for each building for receiving complaints about library resource center
materials. These guidelines will include:
1. All contacts challenging library materials should be directed to the librarian.
2. Get the person’s name and address, if possible, but do not insist upon them.
3. Attempt to resolve the matter through explanation of Board policy, regulations, etc..
4. If the matter cannot be resolved with the librarian, the person is asked to contact the Building
Principal.
5. The Assistant Superintendent for Instruction for the District Office should be informed by the
Building Principal of all contacts challenging library materials.
6. Information on the number, nature and titles of the challenged materials will be circulated among
the buildings by the District Office.
B. Requests for reconsideration which cannot be resolved by the Building Principal are referred to an
Ad-hoc Committee of building staff and community members for review and recommendation.
C. The Ad-hoc Committee will be appointed by the Building Principal as needed.
D. The Ad-hoc Committee shall be composed of representatives of:

Library Staff (1)
Building Educational Staff (1)
Community Members (1)
