Enrollment in High School Courses
On very rare occasions, junior high schools may identify gifted 8th grade students who mentally and
emotionally are prepared to enroll in one credit course in a District 87 high school.
Students who have satisfactorily completed prerequisites and are prepared to advance to course work
may be recommended for high school placement in a specific academic area.
In such cases, the following guidelines shall be followed:
A. The appropriate junior high school personnel shall make a recommendation for placement to the
Building Principal of a Glenbard High School. The recommending school shall provide the high
school with all records and background information necessary to make a decision.
B. The recommendation shall be considered only if there is space available in the requested class.
C. If space is available, a conference shall be held with student, parent(s)/guardian(s), high school
director of guidance, department chairman, and other appropriate personnel, to evaluate
placement in a high school class. The intent of the conference is “educational planning”. A
decision to enroll the student in a high school course requires adherence to the following:
1. Parent must complete all Glenbard enrollment material (statistical sheet, emergency card, etc.).
2. The student is processed like any first-time Glenbard Student:
a. Student is registered.
b. Student number is assigned.
c. I. D. card is issued.
d. Schedule is arranged.
D. The District is not responsible for the transportation needs of any junior high school student
enrolled in a Glenbard course.
E. Junior high school students enrolled in a Glenbard course shall not participate in any of
Glenbard’s extracurricular programs.
F. Junior high school students enrolled in a Glenbard course shall be claimed by the Glenbards’ for
state aid purposes just like any other part-time student.
G. Junior high school parent(s)/guardian(s) and students shall receive all regular Glenbard
newsletters, grade reports, disciplinary reports, and other pertinent information forwarded to high
school families.
H. No grades or credit will be earned for courses prior to ninth grade enrollment. Enrollment in
these course will be treated just as high school course work completed at the students’ junior high
school Recording Junior High School Courses.
Junior high school students may take junior high school courses which qualify them to be placed in
advanced courses upon entering high school. Examples of these courses are:
Geometry Honors/Regular
Algebra;
French I; and
Spanish I.
Other courses as they develop and evolve
These junior high school courses should be entered on the student’s high school transcript, without
credit, using the letter “P” as the grade and the numbers “9999” as the course code.
