Administrative Procedure – Home Schooling
Proficiency
Proficiency in subject areas is to be determined by tests administered by the respective Department Chairmen under the direction of the Assistant Principal for Instruction. Any dispute or question as to a proficiency determination shall be referred to the appropriate Building Principal. The Principal’s decision on home instructed students’ proficiency will be final.
Credit and Grades
The amount of credit will be determined by the Department Chairmen on the basis of proficiency with a recommendation made to the Assistant Principal for Instruction. Satisfactory proficiency for a specific course will be given the grade of “P” for passing with no letter or numerical designation of level of proficiency. The transcript for the home instructed period will show the title of the course for which proficiency has been established and shall clearly designate that the course was home instruction.

Any portion of a student’s transcript relating to home instruction will not be considered for placement on the honor roll, computation in class rank, or eligibility for District determined scholarships.
Attendance To Meet State Requirements
A home instructed student must enroll for a minimum of one semester and meet the State of Illinois minimum requirement of 300 minutes of District instruction per day in order to receive District credit. A student must be in attendance a minimum of one semester and earn at least two District credits to be eligible to receive a District diploma.
Graduation Requirements
The Assistant Principal for Instruction will conduct a review of the student’s program in order to determine eligibility for graduation. Specific requirements for graduation, i.e. consumer education, driver education, health instruction, or the constitution test, will need to be met through course completion in the District or demonstration of proficiency. Any dispute or question regarding graduation requirements shall be referred to the appropriate Building Principal.
