Administrative Procedure – Extracurricular Activities
Responsibility of Building Principal
Within the guidelines established by the Superintendent, the Building Principal shall make available to
students and be responsible for a well-rounded program of extracurricular activities.
Purposes
The program of extracurricular activities shall seek to provide opportunities to students for service,
pleasure, academic enrichment, leadership, and development of individual and group responsibility.
Student Behavior
A. Behavior consistent with the purposes of the activity and the Policy and Regulations of the
Superintendent and Building Principal on Student Behavior, 7:190, shall be expected of all students
who participate in extracurricular activities.
B. Exemplary behavior, in and out of school and above the minimum standards described in this section,
shall be expected of all students who:
1. Are in positions of trust and leadership in an extracurricular activity; or who
2. Participate in an extracurricular activity, such as student government, which by nature places
students in a position to influence the reputation, morale, and general well-being of the schools.
C. The Building Principal may take appropriate disciplinary action, including suspension from the
extracurricular activity, for those students who violate these standards of behavior.
Student Activity Board
A. Upon appropriate request to the Building Principal, a Student Activity Board shall be formed to make
recommendations to the Building Principal concerning violations of the guidelines for student outlined
in Section 3 above.
B. Members of the Board shall be:
1. The Dean of students who shall serve as chairman;
2. Two faculty representatives chosen by the Dean with the Building Principal’s approval;
3. The Department Chair when a violation involves that particular department;
4. The advisor or teacher supervising the extracurricular activity; and
5. The Building Principal or Assistant Principal when necessary in the opinion of the Building
Principal.
C. Cases may come before the Board when requested by:
1. Administrators;
2. Advisor, teachers or Department Chairs; or
3. The involved student or his parents.
D. The student appearing before the Board and his parents shall be notified by the Dean of Students in
advance of the meeting.
E. Meetings of the Board shall be conducted in such a manner as to insure confidentiality of the
proceedings.
F. Meetings of the Board shall be conducted solely to gather information concerning a particular violation
of the guidelines for student behavior outlined in Section 3 above do that the Board may make an
accurate reporting of the facts and a reasonable recommendation to the Building Principal.
G. The Board shall interview the disciplined student, the faculty advisory of the extracurricular activity, and
the person requesting that the Board be convened. The Board may also interview the student’s
parent(s)/guardian(s), persons which the student requests be interviewed or any other persons who, in
the Board’s opinion, may aid in determining the facts. All interviews shall normally be conducted
independently of each other.
H. Upon interviewing all involved persons, the Board shall, with majority approval, make a recommendation
to the Building Principal concerning the disposition of the case.
I. The board’s recommendation shall be transmitted to the Building Principal who shall make a final
decision.The Building Principal shall communicate, in writing, the decision to the student and
parent(s)/guardian(s). The student or parent(s)/guardian(s) may request a review of the Building
Principal’s decision by the Superintendent.
Formulation of Student Clubs or Organizations in the Glenbard Schools
A. Organizers of a student club or organization must submit a constitution, which includes the purposes,
the organizational structure, and the by-laws, to the student governing organization and the Building
Principal for their review and recommendations. Subsequent revisions of the constitution must also be
submitted.
B. Approval of the club or organization must be secured from the Building Principal prior to its beginning to
function.
C. The club or organization must have a faculty sponsor who has agreed to attend all meetings of the club
and to supervise its activities. Volunteers, with the approval of the Building Principal and the faculty
sponsor, may assist the faculty sponsor.
D. The club or organization, when formed and annually thereafter, must file the names of its officers and
the name of its sponsor with the student governing organization and the Building Principal. Subsequent
annual filing of this information and any other information which the Building Principal may require shall
constitute a request for renewal of school-sponsored status.
E. All receipts from dues or projects of the club or organization must be deposited in the school’s activity
account under the club’s name. All disbursements must be paid from the activity account
(Administration Regulations 4:90-R Governing Student Activity Accounts).
Residency
The Building Principal shall insure that all students participating in any extracurricular practice session or any special tryout session shall be limited to and provided exclusively for students who are currently enrolled and currently attending the particular facility in compliance with Administrative Regulations 7:70-R Governing Pupil Attendance.
Student Extracurricular Clubs’ or Organizations’ Constitutions
The Building Principal shall review annually all constitutions and/or by-laws of student clubs or
organizations to insure their compliance with all current Policies or Administrative Regulations.
Annual Participation Report
The Building Principal shall require an annual report from all extra-mural, including interscholastic,
sponsors indicating the number of participants, number of meetings and/or contests and other
pertinent information that may be desired by the Building Principal.
