Community Relations

Public Gifts to the District


Non-monetary donations and gifts and monetary contributions may be accepted to the full extent
permitted by Section 16-1 of The School Code.

The Superintendent or designee shall have the authority to accept general monetary donations or nonmonetary
donations and gifts with a value of two thousand five hundred dollars ($2,500.00) or less if
his/her review indicates that doing so is in the best interests of a school or the District, provided that
such acceptances shall be regularly communicated to the Board of Education. The Superintendent or
designee shall also have the authority to accept monetary gifts designated for a specific purpose or
project of one thousand dollars ($1,000) or less. Donations and gifts which are less than or equal to
thousand dollars ($1,000) and designated for a specific purpose or project, shall be reported to the
Board of Education by the Superintendent or designee.

For general donations and gifts with a value in excess of two thousand five hundred dollars
($2,500.00), or for monetary donations over one thousand dollars ($1,000) designated for a specific
purpose or project, the Superintendent or designee shall review all such donations and gifts and make
a recommendation to the Board regarding the acceptance of such donations and gifts.

All donations, gifts, and contributions received shall become the School District’s property, and title
to any such property shall be in the name of the Board of Education.

The Superintendent shall establish administrative procedures to implement this policy. The
Procedures shall include standards for acceptance of gifts. In making recommendations to the Board
on acceptance or rejection of gifts, the Superintendent shall identify the relevant standards and
address the degree to which the standards are met by the particular gift.
