Introduces key concepts in rhetoric and writing, including situation and context, audience, genre, purpose, and persuasion. Students apply these concepts in writing projects that demonstrate how reading and writing are embedded in multi-faceted academic, personal, social, political, and/or professional purposes. These writing projects unfold through a deliberate process of inquiry, feedback, and revision. This course is offered at no additional cost, is a part of the Illinois Articulation Initiative, and is widely transferable to many colleges and universities through a College of DuPage transcript.

Prerequisites: Successful completion of six semesters of high school English and an ACT composite score of 20 or higher, or a score of 18 or higher on the ELA portion of the ACT, or five semesters of a 2.6/4.0 unweighted GPA or higher.

Builds upon the rhetoric, reading, and writing concepts introduced in English Composition 1101 by having students compose inquiry-driving research projects. In their research process, students find and select the most appropriate sources to address research questions that are intended for a discourse community. Students integrate sources meaningfully for support and present their findings via the forms of media and genre that suit the project’s objectives. This course is offered at no additional cost, is a part of the Illinois Articulation Initiative, and is widely transferable to many colleges and universities through a College of DuPage transcript.

Prerequisites: Successful completion of six semesters of high school English and an ACT composite score of 20 or higher, or a score of 18 or higher on the ELA portion of the ACT, or five semesters of a 2.6/4.0 unweighted GPA or higher.  In addition, students must have successfully completed Dual Credit English Composition 1101 or have earned a 3 or higher on the AP Language and Composition Exam. 
   

DUAL CREDIT FUNDAMENTALS OF SPEECH COMMUNICATION 1100

This college-level oral communication course combines communication theory with the practice of oral communication skills. The oral communication course: (1) develops awareness of the communication process; (2) provides intentional, organizational and expressive strategies; (3) promotes understanding of and adaptation to a variety of communication contexts; and (4) emphasizes critical skills in listening, reading, thinking and speaking. Students are expected to prepare and deliver substantive speeches, including both informative and persuasive assignments delivered extemporaneously. This is a dual credit course through the College of Dupage and is designed to fulfill general education requirements, and not designed as a prerequisite for any other college Speech course. Speech 1100 is offered at no additional cost, is a part of the Illinois Articulation Initiative, and is widely transferable to many colleges and universities through a COD transcript. This course fulfills the speech requirement for graduation.

DUAL CREDIT INTRO TO WORLD MUSIC 1115*

This college-level course provides an introduction to the great variety of musical styles from around the world. This course examines representative music of the non-Western world, with an emphasis on its function within the culture of which it is a part. No previous musical experience is required. The course emphasizes an understanding of basic musical terminology and the development of improved listening skills. This is a dual credit course through the College of Dupage and is designed to fulfill general education requirements at the college level. This course is offered at no additional cost, is a part of the Illinois Articulation Initiative, and is widely transferable to many colleges and universities through a COD transcript.

Prerequisites: At least 4 semesters of high school English and a cumulative unweighted GPA of 2.6/4.0 or ACT composite score of 20 or higher, or a score of 18 or higher on the ELA portion of the ACT.

DUAL CREDIT AMERICAN POLITICS 1101/AP US GOVERNMENT*

Analyzes the dynamics and processes of the evolving American constitutional democracy: its origins, structure, and problems. Areas of study include an in-depth discussion of the U.S. constitution, federalism, civil liberties, interest groups, political parties, campaigns, elections, mass media, Congress, the courts, and the presidency. This is a dual credit course through the College of Dupage and is designed to fulfill general education requirements at the college level. This course is offered at no additional cost, is a part of the Illinois Articulation Initiative, and is widely transferable to many colleges and universities through a COD transcript.

Additionally, this course prepares students for the Advanced Placement Examination in US Government & Politics. Any student enrolled in an AP course is expected to take the course AP exam in May. Students should visit www.transferology.com and consult with their selected college to determine if dual credit or AP credit is a better option for credit.
