Reminder: stay home if you are symptomatic
It is important to stay home if you are symptomatic and to get tested before returning to stop the spread the COVID-19.

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day
September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and Sept.10 is World Suicide Prevention Day. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) encourages all to know the warning signs. Review the risk of suicide signs at this link.

For anyone experiencing difficult or suicidal thoughts, or anyone who knows someone who is, there are resources available, including:

  • National Suicide Prevention Lifeline – The Lifeline is available 24/7 at 1-800-273-8255 for free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones.
  • Crisis Text Line– The Crisis Text Line is available 24/7 for free crisis support by text message. Anyone in a crisis can connect with a Crisis Counselor by texting ‘Reach’ to 741741.
  • Call4Calm – Afree text line is available if for anyone seeking emotional support. Text TALK to 552020 for English or HABLAR for Spanish, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Callers seeking assistance remain anonymous and will provide only their first name and zip code, which enables the service to link them to a counselor in their area who is knowledgeable about available local resources.
  • Veteran’s Crisis Line – Provides access tocaring, qualified responders within the Department of Veterans Affairs. This free support is confidential, available 24/7, and serves all veterans, service members, their families, and friends. Call 1-800-273-8255 or text: 838255. Support is available for the hearing impaired at 1-800-799-4889.
  • DuPage County Health Department Crisis Services –The DuPage County Crisis Hotline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 630-627-1700.  Callers can expect staff to provide support and guidance to manage the crisis, explore options and provide other resources that may further assist them in resolving the crisis.   

Glenbard Parent Series reminders
Details about the following Glenbard Parent Series webinars are at glenbardgps.org 

  • 14 at 7 p.m.: Positive Parenting and Social Emotional Health for the Teenage Years
    Webinar will explore positive parenting and the social emotional health of young people.
  • 16 at 7 p.m.:  Technology Training and the Wellness Tips to Help Teens Thrive
    The webinar – presented in Spanish only – will include discussion of wellness information that sets students up to thrive, as well as the digital tools, skills and resources families may use to become effective partners in their children’s education.

Help wanted for SHIELD testing
We plan to implement SHIELD testing for students at our schools the week of Sept. 20. In order for the process to run with minimal disruption to the school day, Med-Call Healthcare, which is coordinating the SHIELD testing at our schools, is hiring committed candidates to assist with collection of SHIELD testing kits. These positions are not demanding, but timely attendance and commuting throughout the day may be involved. All job candidates must have their own transportation.

Those who are hired will be expected to work during school hours. Strong computer/data entry experience is required. Although healthcare experience is ideal, it is not a requirement for this position.

  • Pay: up to $20 per hour
