ACT-SO offers professional student mentoring partnerships
Are you interested in science? Do you like to experiment and discover new things? Are you talented? Do you like to sing, dance, act, or write? Do you paint, draw, or sculpt? Do you have the mind of an entrepreneur? ACT-SO provides opportunities for students in all of these areas.  Professional student mentoring partnerships include:

  • Argonne National Laboratory (Argonne/ACT-SO STEM Research Program)
  • unity (Humanities, Performing & Visual Arts
  • Project Management Institute
  • SCORE (Entrepreneurship)

ACT-SO is the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics. It is a youth program that encourages academic and cultural achievement among students of African descent in preparation for college and career success.

Register on the DuPage ACT-S0 website to attend one of the mandatory orientation sessions and learn more about ACT-SO. Orientation session one will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Aug. 29 via Zoom. Orientation session two will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Sept. 5 via Zoom. A Zoom link will be emailed after registration is completed. For more information, click here. 

Boosters set gear sale dates
Glenbard West Boosters will host gear sales on Thursday, Sept. 2, at open house and at football games on Duchon Field on Aug. 28, Sept. 4, Sept.18, Oct. 2 and Oct. 23. Cash and credit card accepted. Net proceeds support Glenbard West’s academic, athletic and extracurricular programs. Items include T-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, joggers, jackets, hats, flags and more.

Sign up for Sept. 1 COVID-19 vaccine clinic by Aug. 26
Glen Ellyn School District 41 is partnering with AMITA Health to host a vaccine clinic for people age 12 and older. The clinic will take place on Sept. 1 and 22 for doses one and two, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Hadley Junior High, 240 Hawthorne Blvd. in Glen Ellyn.

Please click here to fill out the form by Aug. 26. AMITA will follow up to schedule your appointments. Please do not schedule yourself/your child if you will not be available to attend both the Sept. 1 and Sept. 22 clinic dates.

Resources supporting safe return to school
On March 11, 2021, the American Rescue Plans (ARP) was signed into law. In it, the U.S. Department of Education is providing an additional $121.9 billion for the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER III Fund). Glenbard District 87 is allotted $6,515,710 in ESSER III (ARP). Of that amount, $6,271,705 was allocated from the Federal funds, of which the grant requires 20% or $1,254,341 be spent to address learning needs.

The remaining allocation is considered state level reservations for learning needs, summer enrichment and after-school activities in amounts of $174,291, $34,858 and $34,858, respectively.

  • Summer Enrichment (State allocation) – $34,858
  • After-School (State allocation) – $34,858
