Glenbard West Theatre to present “Animal Farm” Jan. 30 through Feb. 1
Glenbard West Theatre will present its winter drama, “Animal Farm”, from January 30 through February 1. The production is based on the book by George Orwell and adapted by Ian Wooldridge.

When the animals on a farm drive their master out and take over to run the farm for themselves, all seems well… until they soon realize someone has to take the deposed farmer’s place. The pigs step up, promising to lead with compassion that the farmer never had – a promise soon proven empty. George Orwell’s satire on society reveals how power can be corrupting. Although claiming equality, Napoleon (a pig) shares, “some animals are more equal than others.”

“Animal Farm” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. January 30 through February 1 in the Larry Shue Auditorium at Glenbard West High School, 670 Crescent Blvd. in Glen Ellyn. Tickets are $10. Purchase tickets at: https://search.seatyourself.biz/webstore/accounts/glenbardwest/buy-tix

GPS early childhood event to highlight the benefits of prioritizing little moments with children
The GPS Parent Series: Navigating Healthy Families will present The Way of Play: Little Moments – Big Connections with child development authorities Dr. Tina Payne Bryson and Georgie Wisen-Vincent at noon and 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, via Zoom. Go to the GPS Parent Series website for information and the links to these webinars.

Most adults understand that unstructured play time is essential for a child’s growth and creativity, but new science has discovered that little moments of deliberate, playful interaction with adults is key to their healthy emotional development and later resilience.

Bryson, the New York Times bestselling co-author of “The Whole-Brain Child,” and renowned play therapist Wisen-Vincent will share how short, daily playful interactions can help children let go of anxiety, reduce drama and chaotic behavior and help kids better face their fears while also assisting them in handling big emotions and bolstering their social skills. Participants will learn how to foster calm listeners, cooperative problem solvers and respectful communicators while having fun as a family.

Continuing professional development units are available for this program.

Bryson is a renowned psychotherapist who speaks internationally. She is the distinguished co-author with Dan Siegel of five New York Times best-selling books, including “No-drama Discipline.” She is the founder/executive director of the Center for Connection in Pasadena, Calif.

Wisen-Vincent is a licensed child and adolescent psychotherapist specializing in play and creative arts therapies for children from the early years to adolescence. She is an active member of both the American and the British Association of Play Therapists.
