Completing high school and college can be an important determinant in a person’s future. Families can play a key role in their child’s future by understanding the necessary steps for college readiness. This webinar will help students through the process of realizing their college and career dreams.

Students and families will learn about college admission from start to finish; the importance of the high school transcript; financial aid; scholarships; the role of testing and more. A panel of speakers will share an easy-to-understand guide for students and their caregivers with emphasis on important deadlines and benchmarks that prospective students will encounter as they prepare for their future.

Ochoa is a school counselor at Glenbard West High School, and Ramirez is a school counselor at Glenbard East High School. They will be joined by representatives from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission.

Two takeaways from GPS program about gaming
Recently, the GPS Parent Series welcomed psychiatrist Alok Kanojia in two programs based on his book “How to Raise a Healthy Gamer: End Power Struggles, Break Bad Screen Habits and Transform Your Relationship With Your Kids.”

Visit Kanojia’s speaker page under Past Programs on the GPS website to view a recording of the program.

Glen Ellyn School District 41 Superintendent Jeff McHugh and Community Consolidated School District 93 Superintendent David Hill hosted the events and shared their takeaways.

McHugh said, “Dr. K offered a program to help foster restraint not restriction based on his own journey with video game addiction. The goal is to raise independent adults prepared for life in the world ahead. Dr. K emphasized that parents must build an alliance with their child, and highlighted the need for parents to get educated—to understand gaming’s impact on brain chemistry, as well as its complex social aspects.”

Hill said, “Dr. K shared his personal journey with video game addiction and his work with Healthy Gamer, a platform for gamers. He encouraged parents to invest time in having conversations to better understand your child’s perspective and the community they have formed online. Model compassion and cooperation to teach your child relationship skills as you partner in decision-making around boundaries.”
