Students earn national recognition for academic excellence

Congratulations to our students who have been honored in a variety of national academic recognition programs:

  • Semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship competition
  • Commended students in the National Merit Scholarship program
  • Recognition in College Board National Recognition Programs 

Congratulations to National Merit Semifinalists
Congratulations to the following students who have been named semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship competition:  Glenbard East students Jason Kane Cisnero and Kayla Hickman and Glenbard West students Annika Bhagwakar, Ishaan Gupta and James MacDonald. 

Semifinalists must advance to finalist standing in the competition by meeting high academic standards, receiving a recommendation from their principal and earning SAT scores that confirm the earlier qualifying test performance. 

Congratulations to National Merit Commended Students
Congratulations to our students who have been named commended students in the National Merit Scholarship program. Commended students are among the top 5% of the 1.5 million students who entered the competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

Congratulations to the following Glenbard District 87 students on earning academic recognition as part of the College Board National Recognition Programs:

National African American Recognition Award recipients: Glenbard East student Skiustin Matos Gomez; Glenbard South student Lily Guetzow; and Glenbard West student Xzavion Willett.

National Hispanic Recognition Award recipients: Glenbard East students Christina Chiero and Skiustin Matos Gomez; Glenbard North students Nicolas Di Tirro, Belen Fuentes, Amanda Giron, Emanuel Ibarra, Aitana Leathe, Isaih Nevarez and Hugo Tecuanhuehue; Glenbard South students Sofia Alcala, Aaron Berntsen, Danielle Bulthuis, Lily Guetzow, Lexia Hagedorn and Lily Manzanero; and Glenbard West students Gabriella Knapp, Lilly McCarthy, Mia Palacios-Arteaga and Emilia Serna.

National Indigenous Recognition Award recipients: Glenbard North student Emanuel Ibarra and Glenbard South student Danielle Bulthuis.

Students earned qualifying scores on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test or eligible Advanced Placement exams. These academic honors can be included in college and scholarship applications.
